Sportfish Tuition Update
Our 2020 programme of courses and tuition is currently on hold, but we do hope to be able to resume safely soon, and are already busy planning for 2021.
Our bestselling courses are very popular indeed, and do sell out quickly, so if you would like to get ahead of the crowd for next year and receive advance notice of dates, simply email: [email protected] with your name and telephone number, stating which course(s) you are interested in.
We will then be in touch via email, prior to advertising the course, with dates for your consideration before they go live.
We are delighted to offer two new course dates at Bywell on the famous River Tyne. This will be our eighth season at Bywell and the fishery has become a firm favourite in our calendar. This course is incredibly popular, so please do book early to avoid disappointment.
The Bywell beat of the River Tyne is one of the best stretches of salmon fishing in England. Running directly through the estate, the beat is 2.5 miles long and fishing is from both banks.
Fish do not migrate above the fish pass just above Bywell until the water temperature reaches 42/43F and with February water temperatures generally lower than this, it vastly improves our chances of catching a spring Salmon.
Campbell Thomson S.G.A.I.C, will be hosting the courses with the help of both Bywell ghillies. All clients will spend plenty of quality time with either an instructor or two very accomplished ghillies.
There will be 8 rods per course, which will split into two teams of four. Four rods will have instruction and four will fish. We will swap over at lunchtime and rotate in this way for the duration of the course.
But most of all it’s about the fishing and how to maximise your chances, being introduced to arguably one of the best rivers in England and having a really good time.
We are once again using the Angel at Corbridge as our base for this course. The accommodation and food are first class and there’s truly nothing better than a real fire and first class hospitality at the end of a day’s fishing. We can’t wait to get back there and we really look forward to you joining us.
Further accommodation can be arranged privately with the Angel if required for the evening of your last day’s fishing, subject to availablilty.
You are required by law to have a current EA rod licence; one can be purchased online here »
Price does not include: Gratuities, evening drinks, travel costs or EA rod licence. Please ensure you read our course terms and conditions prior to booking. * This offer cannot be used in conjunction with any other offer
"Just a quick note to say many thanks for the great time we had earlier this week. Thanks to Campbell and Tom for making Tom B and I so welcome. Also, thanks to you for your patience in getting us started in our salmon fishing careers!
We came away feeling we had made good progress and we were very lucky to be in with such a great group of people - we thoroughly enjoyed the whole experience. Please also pass our thanks on to the ghillies.
I would say we are definitely hooked and it was a great finish to see Andrew land a springer. I am sure we will be in touch to continue our education in the future.
Many thanks once again and hope to be in touch soon regarding another trip."
"Firstly a massive thank you to all those who were involved in the spring salmon course. I had a fantastic time and learnt so much about fishing rivers in general.
Joining this trip was a great way to meet likeminded people as I am relatively new to salmon fishing. What a kick start to my year, landing a cracking spring salmon of 15lbs.
The Instructors from Sportfish taught me a great deal and the ghillies and facilities at the beat were excellent. Sportfish served up this great course, in impeccable style, so well done guys!
I would thoroughly recommend one of these courses to anybody looking to enhance and develop their fishing and castingskills. I look forward to trying out the skills learned on this course within my fishing over the coming seasons."
