Disc drag is the business.

Purchased due to snapping thread when tying large saltwater flies and tying in bucktail and wanting to ensure that it’s bound in tightly as I just don’t trust glues etc. Pre-set the drag to the limit of nearly snapping then off you go, easy as peas! I’m sure the same principle applies to small flies and light threads. Won’t be going back to my old bobbin.

I bought this bobbin because I found that the spring type sometimes don't grip the bobbin well, causing slack thread to hinder my tying. I used it for the first time last week on both 14/0 and 8/0 thread and it performed really well on both. The adjustable tension prevented snapping the thread and slack thread. Worth spending a bit extra to avoid that annoyance in my opinion.
