Autumn Salmon Fishing Tips

For many rivers, the autumn months herald the arrival of the season’s biggest runs of salmon. We should also see an influx of larger fish following on from the summer’s grilse runs, all eager to reach the spawning grounds as the season ends. Now is a great time to be out on the river as temperatures drop and the leaves begin to change colour. The river valley will rarely look more beautiful.

I really enjoy summer salmon fishing – rivers will be at summer levels now and you can fish with much lighter tackle. Your approach needs to be much stealthier and a much higher degree of rivercraft will be needed. Good fly presentation is now key to success. In this post I’ll take you through my top tips along with demonstrating some of them in our new Sportfishworld YouTube video!
